Janet Announces New Compliance Regime Known As “Listening To Janet”
With enforcement expanding across the country and patience thinning everywhere else, Janet has introduced a simpler compliance regime built around one elegant principle: listening to Janet.
The sheep were informed this week that Janet has unveiled a new compliance regime known as “Listening To Janet,” a governance framework she described as “streamlined, humane, and refreshingly free of interpretive drift.”
According to Janet, the system replaces the old model, in which sheep asked questions, explored edge cases, and generally treated guidance as a conversational opening, with a new model in which Janet says something once and the pasture proceeds accordingly. Fancy Pants called the structure “administratively elegant.” Marvin called it “a concerning concentration of clipboard authority.” Janet wrote both comments down and marked one of them corrective.
The sheep said the timing felt nationally resonant. Across the country, the larger mood has shifted toward stricter oversight, narrower discretion, and more enthusiastic forms of official instruction. The administration this week ordered leading AI developers to submit advanced models for government cybersecurity testing before public release, a move presented as voluntary but unmistakably supervisory in spirit. Separately, Homeland Security has been drafting plans to halt immigration and customs processing at airports in sanctuary cities, extending the logic of enforcement into the movement of people and goods through everyday civic systems.
Whitney described Janet’s policy as “firmly bounded but energetically crisp.” Simone asked whether the regime included an appeals process. Janet said yes, in the sense that sheep were free to appeal to Janet. Bruce and Frankie expressed support after learning the rules would be posted on a decorative board near the orchard in a font they described as “authoritarian but tasteful.”
By sunset, the flock had adjusted to the new arrangement with the weary grace of a population that increasingly understands the national moment. A great many systems now promise efficiency through tighter control, fewer questions, and a stronger hand at the center. The sheep agreed that Janet’s regime at least offers one advantage over the others. It is honest about who is in charge.

A Janetocracy?
Oh, my! So all along Janet has been a dictator in sheep's clothing? Another meeting must be called!
