Committee Elects Subcommittee To Interpret Committee Intentions
The new subcommittee will spend six months determining what the committee intended before recommending the creation of a task force.
The sheep applauded Tuesday after a congressional committee unanimously elected a subcommittee to interpret what the committee had intended during its previous seven meetings.
Fancy Pants said the decision followed weeks of hearings, briefings, procedural votes, and solemn remarks in which every member agreed the issue required immediate clarity from someone else.
The newly created Subcommittee on Committee Intentions will review transcripts, facial expressions, seating arrangements, and one mysterious sentence in the minutes reading, “Members generally expressed interest in exploring a path forward.”
Janet asked whether the committee could simply explain its intentions directly.
Officials cautioned that such an approach could undermine the interpretive process.
Marvin immediately began mapping the relationship between the committee, its oversight panel, its advisory council, and a temporary working group whose authority expired before anyone located the meeting room.
Whitney described the new body as “a safe container for institutional uncertainty.” Bruce and Frankie proposed televising the hearings under the title America’s Next Top Procedural Delay.
The sheep noted that Congress currently maintains committees and subcommittees examining trade, artificial intelligence, housing, public safety, financial regulation, government spending, and several agencies that were themselves created to coordinate other agencies.
Fancy Pants praised the architecture.
“It resembles a shepherd hiring another shepherd to ask the first shepherd where the sheep went,” he said.
The subcommittee expects to release preliminary findings next spring. Those findings will be referred back to the full committee, which will determine whether they accurately represent the subcommittee’s understanding of the committee’s original intentions.
A bipartisan task force will handle disagreements.
